News from the country
Hello my friends, is
now it with me in the Mexico-final stage, more specifically, I just got another 9 weeks, I'm up again in Hamburg. On the one hand, I'm looking forward to home, my family and my friends, on the other hand I would also love to stay longer, because I want to see and experience so much and that for the two months hardly enough.
This Saturday I will but make my first "DELE" English certificate and therefore I am more or less at study hard. Talk to me now is very easy, but by the grammar I have less idea, but I am relatively confident.
In recent weeks, little new happened, except that we had a meeting of AFS, to which we all had to "muy formal" appear. Since we rarely Freiqilligen rumhüpfen in our project in the "little black dress" was the Dress invention, an extremely chaos for all. Finally, we have all of us can lend to our host families had to buy something or what. The meeting should serve to people interested in the AFS "weltwärts program" to bring closer and to strengthen the German-Mexican cooperation. The whole thing took place in a super fancy hotel and immediately knew that the "target" not the ordinary Mexicans. The project of this and next year were invited, and should therefore more about AFS and about which there can be problems etc to know. Ultimately, it was a nice evening, but we agreed that a less chic ambience would have been more appropriate since it is finally to utilities that have to do with vulnerable people.
Another beautiful day was Children's Day, which is expected as well-otherwise-celebrated super big. Three consecutive days were groups of Starbucks to pour different schools, etc. to Casa Hogar for the children with candy and play dead with them. Actually, it was nice to see so many volunteers had found that the girls wanted to do something good, but this was really too much. Of the approximately seven groups that were there, each child got a thick bag of sweets and every Nivel a piñata, so the girls came with mounds of sweet things to us. Unfortunately, none of the girls to save anything, and thus the 50 pounds landed in the small bellies. No wonder that no longer wanted to eat dinner .. This excessive quantities, I wonder really is not that so many children are at an age far too thick. When I was small (we say more young), I was even a candy monster, but I've been saving things at least, and not all squashed in a day.
The girls had their fun, however, and that's the main thing. It's nice that they could play so much, for coming here really too short. Just as the creative, I have seen my girls here all year maybe one or two paint something independently, what I pity find when I consider how I painted much earlier and have tinkered. It is always done everything by default, and usually it's all about the stubborn Ausweniglernen. You do not believe how often I over the past nine months with the children in the numbers 2, 3, 5 or 10 steps and 100 have (sometimes up to 500) written down. Even stupider are the "Planas" in English, the children write a word in English 30 times must. That they do not know what this word means, nor how it is pronounced, interested teachers or they simply do not know to do better. One can see again and again how bad the Mexican education system and that many teachers are poorly trained. However, it has Mexico still has a much lower literacy rate than the U.S..
These homework is of course the motivation is not particularly high and it is difficult to motivate them to continually learn. Especially as last week I was alone with my class, it's been real hard. My nun was not there and so I once again realized how stressful it is, with the children to be alone.
Another not so good news: My host mother was in hospital and had to have surgery, but now she feels better.
I hope you are all doing well!
Greetings from the land of tortilla Sanja
PS: Today a child asked me if I'm sick because I have blue eyes .. Interesting theory is not it?
