Calcutta stinks
... this is the first impression of a entgegenschlaegt in this city. And this noise. In the evening to push earplugs in your ears is an equal salvation. It's just very loud and it stinks. You can hear the constant honking of cars, rickshaws and the squeaking of the ring of bicycles. The nose takes exhaust gases, urine, sweat, and various spices and mixed Kochgerueche true ... all at once and all. No wonder - along with the many small stalls, cooked on an open fire where food is the public toilet - namely the water trough on the roadside. If one then in the evening watching the little guys that the dishes in that same water scrub - then you know why you are warned in the Lonely Planet about to eat at the Strassenstaenden.
But the people. Nice people. Especially the women. And the children are easy to pack up, collect and carry. We see so many people that they can hardly understand it ... it is always and everywhere very full. And you winds through the masses to rise over sleeping beggars, dodging the many dogs on the way to make every possible and impossible place for a nap. The best way to go to the open road, even if there are risks to be run over runs. In the road there seems to be no rules - except to horn loudly and sharply to brake. But you learn fast ...
more impressions are soon (Ps: umlaut is nothing on the Indian keyboard =))
